Carlos Souza chegou a ser preso em 2009 quando era vice-prefeito de Manaus
O deputado Carlos Souza (PSD-AM) é suspeito de pertencer à quadrilha liderada pelo irmão, o ex-deputado estadual Wallace Souza (morto em 2010), que ganhou notoriedade após ser acusado de participar de crimes – incluindo homicídio – que depois eram exibidos em seu programa de TV. Carlos Souza é réu na Ação Penal 671, em andamento no Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), por associação ao tráfico de drogas.
Ex-vice-prefeito de Manaus, ele e outro irmão, o hoje deputado estadual Fausto, também eram apresentadores do programa Canal Livre. Os dois tiveram seus nomes incluídos no processo posteriormente, após os investigadores apontarem elementos de que eles conheciam e participavam do esquema.
Segundo a denúncia, eles se utilizavam do programa para obter informações privilegiadas sobre o funcionamento de bocas de fumo de traficantes rivais e planejavam as reportagens para prejudicar o comércio ilícito de drogas realizado pelos concorrentes. Uma testemunha acusou o deputado de ter lhe encomendado o assassinato de um traficante.

Por causa desse processo, que acumula quase 6 mil páginas, Carlos chegou a ficar uma semana preso, em dezembro de 2009. Os irmãos também são acusados de ter a campanha eleitoral financiada por traficantes. No STF, Carlos responde ainda a dois inquéritos (3389 e 3166) por crimes eleitorais e contra a administração da Justiça. O deputado foi eleito em 2010 com 112 mil votos, quinta maior votação do Amazonas. Em 2011, trocou o PP pelo recém-criado PSD, do qual é um dos vice-líderes na Câmara. Por meio da assessoria, o deputado disse ao Congresso em Foco que não comenta as denúncias.
